DPC Model
In the current model of our healthcare system, a patient buys an insurance plan, or is provided one through an employer, who pays a monthly premium in order to keep that insurance coverage. When you need to go the doctor or hospital and obtain medical services, you typically pay a “co-pay” and than your insurance company is billed after the services are delivered. Days or even weeks later, you get stuck with a bill for the services which were performed that the insurance company did not cover, sometimes without evening knowing that they were being done. It can be difficult at times to know what services might be covered by your insurance, and which won’t. That model takes the “informed” nature of the consumer out of the equation. When you or a loved one needs medical care it typically goes without question that the services should be performed, however the repercussions of the overpriced and inflated costs can devastate patients and families. This is an all to common scenario that most have experienced at least once. As a patient, you deserve to know beforehand what you are paying for. Direct Primary Care was born out of this philosophy. You pay a flat fee, get all of your primary care needs covered under that fee, and with the help of your health care team at Veritas DPC, decide the direction of your care before you get stuck with a bill you didn’t expect.
What DPC is not is an alternative to health insurance. The primary function of any insurance, whether it be auto, health, home, life, etc, should be to pay premiums for potentially catastrophic events which are rare and unforeseen. This is a high value investment because of the consequences of having to pay entirely for uncovered events. The premiums should be respectively low to keep the cost affordable, which is contrary to most health insurance plans. This turns out be be quite the opposite of a high value investment because the majority of the healthcare an individual may need can effectively be implemented at a reasonable cost by primary care doctors, in the office, who devote their profession to doing just that. Direct Primary Care is an excellent choice for those who have a high deductible, low dollar monthly premium health insurance plan or a cost-sharing co-op plan. The Direct Primary Care model can also offer primary care services to patients without any insurance, however it is not encouraged or recommended by Veritas DPC.
Our hope at Veritas DPC is to tackle the ever increasing burden of health care costs by reducing the need for overspending, paying out to third parties for routine primary care services, and ultimately to provide exceptional care to patients and their families at a reasonable cost.
